Synergy Error: “An error occurred invoking the requested method (MetersToMiles)”

This issue is known to occur in Synergy version 26.13 when the distance type is set to “miles.”

Written by Asa MacLean

Overview

You may encounter the following error when working in Synergy:

“An error occurred invoking the requested method (MetersToMiles)”

This typically occurs when performing a nearest school calculation or when adding or editing an admissions application on a child record.

Permanent Fix

This issue has been resolved in the May Synergy release, scheduled for 26 May 2026. Updating to this version (or later) will prevent the error from occurring.

Workaround (Immediate Solution)

If you need to resolve this issue before upgrading, you can switch the system to use meters instead of miles.

Steps:

  1. Navigate to:
System Manager → Options → Common → GIS

  2. Change Distance Type to Meters

  3. Save your changes

Important Follow-up Action

If you have active admissions rounds with unallocated applications, you will need to recalculate distances after making this change.

To do this:

  1. Go to:
Admissions → Batch Update Procedures → Routing and Mapping

  2. Run batch processes for:

    • Home-to-school distances

    • Nearest schools

This ensures all distances are correctly recalculated using the updated measurement type.

Summary

  • The error is caused by using miles in version 26.13

  • A permanent fix is included in the May 2026 release

  • A temporary workaround is to switch to meters and rerun batch calculations
